A Tribute to Richard Staats - ............By Millie Coty & David Matheny

7-8-11R_Staats.JPG  Richard L. Staats, 90, of Parkersburg, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011.  Richard and his second wife, Ruby, were avid Fenton collectors and very active with the NFGS, although he became less involved after Ruby‘s death in 2001. (Ruby worked for years in the Hospitality Room.) Richard served as the third president of the NFGS from July of 1995 to July of 1998 and edited The Fenton Flyer newsletter from July 1993 to July 1998. Never one to shrug off work, he was also the NFGS Convention chairperson from September of 1995 through July of 1998. It was his organizational skills that guided the NFGS through the transition from an all-volunteer club operating out of homes to a full-fledged small business with a secretary and an office. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Richard wrote and contributed many articles to The Fenton Flyer. It seemed fitting to reprint as a memorial one such whimsical article that appeared in the November/December 1993 newsletter.

A Fenton Wedding

Priscilla was putting her Thumbprint on the marriage certif-icate. Mandarin was preparing the Bowknot.

The mood was Carnival.

The guests wore Ruby carnations or a sprig of Pink Dogwood. The bride wore a Blue Satin gown with Asters and Dusty Rose slippers. The groom wore a Blue Ridge tie, Powder Pink jacket, Ebony trousers and White Satin shoes. Lighting was by Candleglow.
The Best Man wore a Cranberry Polka Dot shirt, Royal Blue jeans and Powder Blue sneakers. The father wore a Jade Green shirt, Chocolate overalls and Hobnail boots. The napkin Ring was carried on a Diamond Optic tray.
The flower girls, dressed in Colonial Blue gowns trimmed with Spanish Lace, scattered Roses, Violets, Asters, Lilies, Pansies and Dogwood petals along the aisle.
The bride‘s Lily-of-the-Valley bouquet was caught by Autumn Vasa Murrhina who was wearing her Bubble Optic swimsuit.

They Stretched the cake and served a Custard, ducked the rice, dashed to the Plymouth, and drove down Orange Tree Lane, headed for the Honeysuckle suite at the Lincoln Inn.
